Gymnastics
As a school, we have decided to make ‘Gymnastics’ our priority strand. Teachers recieved in school support by Oide to support the development of this strand.
We practiced developing the movement actions of running, stopping, turning, jumping, rolling, twisting, balancing and transferring weight. We also focused on developing body awareness through direction, shape and speed of travelling. The children worked at an individual level, with a partner and in small groups.

Games
We began our new school year with the Physical Education strand of Games. We practiced some throwing, catching and dribbling individual and working with a partner!
Outdoor and Adventure
We used our own school environment and walkway for our outdoor and adventure lessons. The Active Commitee designed the walkway. We use it throughout the year for Maths Week, Science Week, Halloween, Christmas, Seachtain na gaeilge, Easter and for ASW.
Dance
We had great fun learning some new dance moves and dancing to our favourite tunes.

Aquatics
As part of the Physical Education curriculum, children from first to sixth class completed a block of swimming lessons in Coral Leisure Centre in Monaghan. They have been learning how to swim using a float, the front crawl and back stroke. All the children really enjoyed this great experience. A big thanks to the swimming instructors to helping us develop these life skills.
Land Paws Programme
The children enjoyed learning about water safety, farm safety the four types of rescue and what to do if you are scared of the water. An invaluable resource which can be used with all children.
