PHYSICAL EDUCATION

We teach a broad and balanced P.E. curriculum which focuses on the six strands of:
Athletics, Dance, Games, Outdoor and Adventure,
 Aquatics and Gymnastics.

It can be accessed using:

Our Whole School P.E. Plan

A standardised Physical Education timetable is compiled each year where all classes are taught the same strand of the curriculum for the month.

All classes are timetabled for 60 minutes ore more of P.E. every week.

As a school, we have decided to make  ‘Gymnastics’ our priority strand. Teachers recieved in school support by Oide to support the development of this strand.

We practiced developing the movement actions of running, stopping, turning, jumping, rolling, twisting, balancing and transferring weight. We also focused on developing body awareness through direction, shape and speed of travelling. The children worked at an individual level, with a partner and in small groups.

As part of the Physical Education curriculum, children from first to sixth class completed a block of swimming lessons in Coral Leisure Centre in Monaghan.  They have been learning how to swim using a float, the front crawl and back stroke. All the children really enjoyed this great experience. A big thanks to the swimming instructors to helping us develop these life skills.

Land Paws Programme

The children enjoyed learning about water safety, farm safety the four types of rescue and what to do if you are scared of the water. An invaluable resource which can be used with all children.
